Any business which operates from rented or owned premises must consider the responsibilities which come from physically housing its employees, stock and activities. Office and Shop insurance policy can cover your daily needs in one go.

You may be thinking do I need office insurance? Yes, is the answer if you run any kind of business from office premises away from your home. What is office insurance? That depends on your business: a wide range of covers can be included, and Oaks expertise is in creating the right bespoke policy for your unique requirements.

What Business Insurance Do I Need?

Ask Oak to quote for office or Shop insurance and the first thing we’ll do is assess what you need. To us, every business is unique, but here are some of the covers we are likely to recommend.

Office premises need to be insured against risks including flood and fire. If you rent the premises this may be covered under your landlord’s insurance, but if you own the property it will be your responsibility. Check with your landlord to avoid paying for office cover you don’t need.

Most offices are full of important items such as files, stock, stationery and equipment, much of it expensive or impossible to replace. That’s why, just like your home, your office requires the right level of contents insurance to make sure valuable assets are covered against damage, destruction, loss or theft. It’s essential to accurately estimate the value of your office contents, otherwise you won’t be adequately insured, placing your business in danger.

This is separate from contents cover, because business insurance policies make a clear distinction between contents and fixed items or furnishings, such as sales counters, kitchen units or appliances, shelves and carpets.

If your office doubles as retail premises and has an exposed shop front, you can also add specific cover including items such as windows, signage and awnings.

If you keep any stock in the office, your Oak advisor will ask you to identify it, because this needs to be insured separately from the office contents.
